Homophones are words we hear as if they were the same. The spelling we see is the way our brain assigns it meaning. I find ideas with the word that allow the students to make a connection.
Spelling Words
Meet has "ee" like the word see and we meet or see our friends at school.
Meat has "eat" inside it and it is the "meat we eat".
A week has seven days. We are weak but Jesus is strong.
The mane belongs to "an" animal. The main idea is found "in" our writing.
A tail does not fail a monkey when it is swinging. A tale is a story.
I would not like to be a bee.
Too is an amount or a way of saying also. I like ice cream and the students do too!
It is still too cold for Spring time flowers. They are going to eat too many cookies.
It is fun to play with two friends.
He was in trouble when he threw the football through the window.
I can see the sea.
Vocabulary Words
You change the y to an i and add the ending when you spell the words below.
heavily, happier, funniest
Lonely has the word one inside it and that makes it sad and "lonely".
Knot and answered have silent letters in them.
The last three vocabulary words are copy, planning, and seriously!

It's a Homerun!
We have a new bulletin board in our classroom to display quality work! Students can "hit a homerun".
I will display the names of students who earned an "A" on work!
I will even hang some "A" papers up on this bulletin board.
When your student has their name or paper on the board for the 1st week they will earn a 1st base reward. The second week this happens they will earn a 2nd base reward. This will happen until they score a HOMERUN! We will celebrate together at the end of the fourth week.
Students will be able to enjoy.... seeing quality work, encouraging eachother, and talking to you about their successes. I am looking forward to filling the board every week with great achievements!
HOMEWORK
Spring Flowers - this is an art project
Memory Work - due next Tues.
*Religion Books - some students need to finish the back cover
Read for AR
*Finish coloring parrots & cutting them out for Monday - this is for art and science
A change was made to "The Menu".
Students in grades K-3 will sing at the Saturday Night service on April 5th at 5:30 p.m.
I continue to deal with some issues with my right hand healing. If you see me with clenched fists I am just trying to "wake up" my tingling hand. Physical Therapy exercises help strengthen muscles and lessen the prickly feeling. I am sure it will be fine, but I felt you should know.

Who is that Masked Man?
One of students surprised us today! We knew Nolan went to Colorado over the vacation time to visit his aunt and cousins. We even knew he went skiing. We did not know that he had quite an adventure on the mountain. He skied the toughest run on the mountain. It is called the Black Diamond Run.
WOW!! The whole group made it down the run safely and Nolan is still smiling ear to ear with pride! CONGRATULATIONS NOLAN!
Several of our classmates are taking swimming lessons right now, seeing movies with their family, and enjoying the blessings of the Lord. We can't wait to learn more about each other.

Then and Than
Then and Than can be easily separated.
You can do it by looking at the two words. One has an e and one has an a.
You will need a better tool to tell their meanings apart.
It is good to remember "Then a hen....."
This silly saying will let you know the word then belongs with stories. "Then a hen..." could begin quite a funny story. "Then a hen..." also leaves you with only one word "THAN".
It is very interesting that as we compare the two words THAN is the word used to compare items.
"My brother is taller than I am." "My sister's cartwheel is straighter than my cartwheel."
THAN is a comparing word in Math Story Problems too! It usually means you are subtracting.
How many more sunny days than rainy days are in the month of April?
HOMEWORK

Some students have papers sticking out of their Language workbooks or a note on the front cover.

Excitement!
The students were all surprised at Gabrielle's news today! She has found her sport, works at it every night, and blessings of all blessings her team earned 1st Place in the statewide competition!
We all got to see her medal, and look at a few pictures on her mom's ipad!
We are all proud of you Gabrielle!
We will continue to share our Spring Blessings with one another each day. There may be a few more surprises yet in store for us.

Wonderful to Be Back!
We are back and busy sharing about our Spring Vacation Days. We have had a chance to hear from most of the class once, but there is still a great amount of Spring Blessings to share with eachother.
The students are bringing home a stapled packet of tests. Please sign the front green Spelling Test and send the whole packet back to school on Tuesday morning.
We discussed some of our Vocabulary Words today and had fun thinking about the word "dense". This word is connected to a story about ducks by a pond. It is also a word that can give us a "strong voice" when discussing forests, fog and even an important old testament person.

Homework to Clear Up
The students have cleaned desks and "old unfinished homework" has been located.
Please check your child's backpack and their folders to make sure they clear up any old work before our week of Spring Vacation. Many students checked out one point AR books today and some students want to check them out on Friday Fun Day. Please send back any library books that are lingering around your house. Students need to return books before they are able to check out new ones!
Math has moved into "Borrowing a group of 10" and placing it in the ones colomn. We are just beginning to learn this skill. You will notice it on Math Sheet #91. I help them learn this with a story.
"Hey Mom can I borrow a dime?"
She will tell you, "Yes, but tell me how many I have left."
Then she will remind you to put in into your pocket.
30
-15 You can't have zero in the ones colomn and subtract 5 so.....
"Hey Mom, can I borrow a dime?' She will tell you, "Yes, but tell me how many I have left"
Cross out the 3 in the tens colomn, put a 2 right above it.
Then she will tell you to put the dime into your pocket.
Place a small 1 next to the 0 in 30 to make 10.
Now you can subtract the ones colomn 10 - 5 = 5 and then the tens colomn 2 - 1 = 1
The answer (which is also called the difference) will be 15.

Ash Wed. & Help for School Famlies
Wednesday is school colors day!
We will be attending church for the service that begins the Lenten Season, Ash Wednesday!
It will be a wonderful school day together. We will be going outside with our Chapel families in the afternoon to hang up some notes on the doors of our school neighbors. We want to tell them about God and thank them for being great neighbors to our church and school!
We are also starting a service to our families during the evening Lenten Church Services.
Teachers will be here in the GCC area to watch your school age students while you attend church. It is our prayer that this service gives our parents a chance to attend the Lenten Services while your children, who have already attended church in the morning, are watched over by staff members.
